Composting is one of the best ways you can reduce your impact on the environment and also to organically nourish your garden (or a friend’s garden!). It is estimated by the FDA that between 30% and 40% of all food in the USA is wasted, with the majority of it ending up in a landfill. Food waste in landfills decomposes anaerobically (without oxygen), which creates methane – a greenhouse gas that is 20x more potent than carbon dioxide at trapping heat. Landfills account for 34% of all methane emissions in the USA. So what is the solution? Composting! In this workshop we will go over many methods of composting and how you can turn your food waste into “black gold”!!
This is a paid event. All proceeds from these classes go toward supporting the Urban Farm Program and Vertical Farm Program.
