MSD Faculty and Staff members will be fresh off their own virtual learning opportunities from the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and the American Montessori Society (AMS) conferences. We will be eager to share what the buzz is all about at the national level, and most importantly, where and how MSD fits into these meaningful discussions on how to best prepare our students for the future and how we have done so far! Come and get the inside scoop!

This lecture will introduce a few of the native pollinators of Colorado and how we can select native plants for our gardens that will attract and nurture these pollinators. Of course, there are many non-native plants that will attract pollinators as well, and we will examine the pros and cons of using native vs non-native plants in our pollinator gardens. We will discuss the basics of garden design, plant selection, maintenance, propagation, where to purchase plants and other elements we can include in our gardens to benefit our native pollinators. Come with a pen and paper and ready to learn!

Composting is one of the best ways you can reduce your impact on the environment and also ito organically nourish your garden (or a friend’s garden!). It is estimated by the FDA that between 30% and 40% of all food in the USA is wasted, with the majority of it ending up in a landfill. Food waste in landfills decomposes anaerobically (without oxygen), which creates methane – a greenhouse gas that is 20x more potent than carbon dioxide at trapping heat. Landfills account for 34% of all methane emissions in the USA. So what is the solution? Composting! In this workshop we will go over many methods of composting and how you can turn your food waste into “black gold”!!
