PARENT EDUCATION
2026-27 Parent Education Events
MSD offers unique, thoughtfully designed, informative, adult events during the school year that we refer to as our “Parent Education Series.” These events provide the opportunity to learn more about child development, share best practices when it comes to teaching and parenting, give you a peek inside the classrooms, and allow you to experience the hallmarks of an MSD education.
By attending select Parent Education events, Work Bond may be awarded. For more information on Work Bond, please click here for our volunteer page.
Coffee & Conversations
Arts and Athletics Commons, 8:30-9:30am
Work Bond Credits: 1
Parenting is full of joys and challenges, and it helps to share the journey with others who understand. Our Coffee & Conversation series offers parents and caregivers a chance to gather by program level for informal, meaningful connection. Over a warm cup of coffee, you’ll have the opportunity to talk, listen, and bond with peers navigating the same stage of life. Our Educational Leadership Team will help guide the conversation with suggested topics, or the group may choose to share what’s most on their minds. Whether you’re seeking ideas, feedback, or simply the reassurance that you’re not alone, Coffee & Conversation is a chance to build community and support one another.

MSD Distinguished Speaker Series
November 12, 6-7:15pm, MSD Gym
Work Bond Credits: 2
We are thrilled to introduce you to this year’s Distinguished Speaker, Michael Townsend. Michael is a Rhode Island-based artist known for his innovative, large-scale drawings created with removable tape. A pioneer of the medium since 1989, he has brought collaborative art projects to schools, museums, hospitals, and public spaces around the world. Townsend is also known for helping create a secret apartment inside Providence Place Mall, an art project featured in the documentary Secret Mall Apartment. His work explores creativity, community, public space, and the power of making art together. “I want audiences to walk away knowing that the capacity to use art as a tool for solving problems is already within them,” he says, “and that the opportunity to make art is absolutely everywhere.”
This year’s Distinguished Speaker event is particularly exciting, because our students will be working with Michael Townsend throughout the first week of November as he teaches them the beauty and art of impermanence through tape murals. Each year, MSD brings in a resident artist to work with our students and staff to learn and grow in a new way. Our annual “TCSE Event” is an endowment experience created in honor of Tracy Collins Schwartz, a beloved former MSD parent and friend.
Stay tuned for more details about this exciting week, but certainly save the date for this unique opportunity to learn as a community from this year’s special guest.
