The Annual Fund Campaign is the most important fundraising effort at MSD. Its impact is enormous, from maintaining our incredible campus to creating extraordinary learning experiences for students. Every single gift influences the young minds at MSD and propels them into the future with a love of learning and a sense of discovery. A gift to the Annual Fund supports our students, faculty, and staff and helps to sustain our future.
As with all independent schools, tuition does not cover the full cost of educating a student and operating our school. The gap between what you pay for tuition and what it actually costs to run MSD is about $1,675 per student. To make up the difference, we count on all members of the MSD community – parents, Trustees, faculty, staff, grandparents, students, alums, parents of alums, and friends of MSD – to help our school be the best it can be.

Why an Annual Fund? Doesn't my tuition cover these costs?
As with all independent schools, tuition does not cover the full cost of educating a student and operating our school. Why don't you just raise tuition?
Raising the cost of tuition to cover the gap would result in MSD becoming less accessible to a large number of our current and prospective families. By keeping tuition costs as low as possible, we’re able to offer an MSD education to a much broader range of socioeconomically diverse families. The Annual Fund allows every family to pitch in at whatever level they’re able to.
Does my gift really make an impact?
Yes! Every single gift has an impact, regardless of its size. Collectively, your gifts combined make a difference to every single student, inspire more giving, and count toward our participation rate.
Why is 100% participation important?
Participation in MSD’s Annual Fund is important for several reasons. First, it supports our culture of philanthropy and demonstrates an understanding of MSD’s mission of doing good. We are proud that 100% of our faculty, staff and board of trustees give to the Annual Fund every year, and 100% parent participation is always our goal. Second, 100% participation makes us eligible for grants to support some of the incredible projects at our school. Finally, strong Annual Fund support positively influences prospective families interested in sending their children to MSD, and likewise inspires major donors and charitable foundations to give to MSD.
How much should I give?
We ask that you give in any amount that is meaningful to your family. Some families are able to give above the gap; others to the gap; and others below the gap. Our annual gifts typically range anywhere from $25 – $15,000, and every gift makes a difference.
Where does this money go?
From creating extraordinary learning experiences for students to keeping up our incredible campus, every single gift impacts the young minds at MSD. Our Annual Fund supports Tuition Assistance, Montessori materials and experiences, Technology, Professional Development, Facilities, and a general fund for wherever it’s needed most. Learn more here.
Can I specify how I'd like it to be used?
Absolutely. You can give directly to any of our funding buckets listed above, or to wherever it’s needed most. Our donation form allows you to specify to your preferences when you make your gift.
Is this donation tax deductible?
Yes. Your gift is 100% tax deductible. MSD’s tax ID number is 84-053604.
When should I support the Annual Fund?
MSD’s Annual Fund campaign is year-round and ongoing. However, our largest fundraising event occurs on Colorado Gives Day every December. On this day, Coloradans come together with the common goal to strengthen the community by helping to power nonprofits. Community First Foundation and FirstBank partner to make this day rewarding for givers, nonprofits and the community as a whole. Thanks to their $1.6 Million Incentive Fund, your donation goes further on Colorado Gives Day. In addition, MSD’s annual Auction every spring also supports our Annual Fund. To take advantage of a current year tax deduction, please make your gift by December 31. The sooner you give, the sooner your gift goes to work to benefit student learning. All pledges are payable by June 30.
